Orion Amphitheater Labor Day Weekend 2024

3 night lineup: 3 nights of tipper, resonant language, copycatt, crawdad sniper, rhizomorphic, saturna, bandito jones, twoleggedzoo

Tipper & Friends. That phrase means so much to a Legion of Oddballs. With news of Tipper’s retiring from touring after the summer of 2025 we welcome back the TnF Theater experience with 3 nights over Labor Day Weekend 2024 (30Aug - 1Sep), bringing back our first (mostly seated) event format since prior to the Pandemic, and following the familiar recipe of Friday Bangers > Saturday Downtempo > Sunday Ambient. Only this time we are in an amazing location at the Orion Amphitheater (capacity 7700) in an open air setting, and attempting our most ambitious project yet. In addition to the inestimable Funktion-One VERO rig, our Visual Arts team headed by Datagrama Visuals will be projection mapping the entire stage facade from side to side, not just the screen and stage proscenium. The best descriptive summary? Imagine if you will Red Rocks meets Saenger Theatre with massive 2019 Camp Bisco Roof scale visuals VJ'd in real time.

VENUE INFO

The Orion Theater at night

The Orion is an 8,000-capacity destination venue that marks a bold new chapter in the Southeast’s unparalleled musical history. With its proximity to the iconic Muscle Shoals Sound Studio, Huntsville enjoys its status as part of the Americana Music Triangle, known for its cultural achievement as the birthplace of one of our country’s greatest exports, music – particularly blues, soul and rock’n’roll. The elevated bowl features a pronounced rake, similar to Red Rocks, instead of a stretched lawn format, to bring fans and performers closer together with unobstructed sight lines. The horseshoe-shaped stepped seating bowl wraps a flat pit area directly in front of the stage. The pit can accommodate 1,500 people seated or up to 2,000 standing. For Tipper the Pit will be Standing Only. The seated bowl is served by 2 levels of concourses outfitted with generous circulation areas, ample public restrooms and upscale food and beverage services. The main concourse is on center with the bowl and features a double-height area that will serve as the main entrance and exit for patrons. More info.

Since opening in the spring of 2022, The Orion has received widespread accolades as it was featured on Billboard’s global Top Music Venues 2024 list, nominated for Amphitheater of the Year at the 2023 and 2022 IEBA Awards, nominated for New Concert Venue of the Year at the 2022 Pollstar Awards. It is part of the City of Huntsville’s ‘MidCity District’ which has a number of outlets including Dave & Busters, Wahlburgers, Blue Oak BBQ, Komodo Ramen, Salt Factory Pub, Starbucks, and Kung Fu Tea (bubble tea). Saturday Night will be “Dress Like a Rock Star” with the stipulation being in order to qualify for judging your rock star of choice has recorded music down in Muscle Shoals located just 75 mins west of Huntsville (more info and here). This part of America is rich with musical heritage, as over the years, artists who recorded there include The Rolling Stones, Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, George Michael, Duane Allman, Willie Nelson, Wilson Pickett, Rod Stewart and many many more. Who you gonna be?

Sunday Night is "Sleepover Night”.. time to break out the PJ’s and Stuffy’s, only this time you will not be judged on your PJ’s but instead for your Stuffy (in order to qualify you must still wear pajamas). When you post your pics you should also share your stuffy’s story, as this will factor considerably in the final judging. We have a panel of experts excited to judge your Stuffy game (none of them are older than 13).
